It's true what they say...
this is a good movie even if you didn't like the show. way cooler in my opinion. would have been nice to see in IMAX.
No Action? Hardly!!
Jango9630 is incorrect in his assessment of there not being enough action. The movie is almost pure action with plenty of story, character development, plot and franchise restart! The movie is not only "ok" but expertly executed with little to be desired but another great sequel.
It is funny, well acted, the cast chosen to perfection, scripted with precision given the old characters, brilliantly done effects-wise... an all-round great movie! As others have stated above, you need not be a fan or know anything about Star Trek to thoroughly enjoy this movie, though having seen at least a few of the previous ones might help with the finer homages and references to the franchise.
I have never been an
I have never been an Original Star Trek Fan, but have always liked Star Trek the next generation.
After seeing this movie and the way it was portrayed, the development of James T. Kirk from an adolescent rebel who lived for the moment and himself to an honorable hero that earned the respect he received at the end of the movie-it was really quite a breath-taking movie. The realism, the character portrayals, the sarcastic humor, the clashing persona's, the blooming friendships, the legacy starting.
It was a truly great movie, a must own, and the ONLY reason it gets a 4 out 5 instead of the full credit is because it was a tad bit hard to understand the finer details of what was really going on in the story line.
Immaculate, and I look forward to the sequel.
It was ok
Yeah it really cool, expecially the special effects, but their was not enough action. but i would still recomend it to anyone.
Something Old & Something New
As with all the other reviewers it is important to note that you do not have to be a fan of previous Star Trek movies or series in order to appreciate and enjoy this movie.
More importantly, as a die hard fan of the original series I had some concerns about my ability to accept this movie, and these characters as the "begninning" of Star Trek as I knew it. This is coming from someone who absolutely refused to watch The Next Generation (at least until season two when curiosity got the better of me), on general principals as it would never live up to the original.
I need not have feared such a thing. This movie is an exceptional Homage to the original and yet is something all of it's own. A finely crafted action Sci-Fi suspense film; I recommend it to all. No matter if you've never watched ST or if you are a Trekkie dating from the coining of the term you owe it to yourself to see this hot summer flick.
was never a fan, now I am
I never followed star trek because it was mostly before my time. My father watched it and loved the old series very much.
Too keep the review short. I seen it once and then I had to go back another two times. I just loved it that much.
It is an amazing movie and defiantly a most own when it comes out on DvD.
Plot= amazing, Acting =Perfect. Very, very well done!!!!!
5 out of 5
Star Trek
I have been a fan all my life. I saw Star Trek Mothers DAy with my Family. 2 of the members were not fans of the star trek series and said so before we went. When the movie was finished they Both said wow!! You do not have to be a fan to enjoy this movie. I saw it last Sunday again, at I-Max. LOved it even more then the week before. The actors are amazing. I like the new Zooloo and the new Chekoff far more then the originals. I have always been a Large Kirk fan!! I am very surprised how much I like the new Kirk!! Very surprised. The movie is a great movie all the way!! I will see it again this week-end or for sure , next week-end and probably another time. Great movie!
THe new Kirk is very talented and has watched the old show and studied the old Kirk's actions and way of speaking , etc. That is obvious by his acting!! Great movie even if you are unfortunate enough not to be a Trekie!! Go SEE IT!!!!
New Star Trek
I am an old fan of this series both the original show and all of the movies. My favorite up till today has always been The Wrath Of Khan. That changed today. This movie is by far the best one yet in my opinion. GO SEE IT.
A Solid Action Flick...
I went into the theater with no background on any type of Star Trek. More than once I have picked up a book, but didn't understand enough to get into it.
This movie on the other hand, was a GOOD MOVIE, it has everything a viewer could want, humor, good characters, good special effects, strong story line, and over-the-top edge-of-your-seat action.
There is also a guest appearance by one of the characters from the original series, but I think you already know that.
All in all, I have three words for you: Go see this movie. Okay maybe that's four but who cares.
I'll see you at the review panel for Terminator 4, and Transformers 2.
Peace out.
Star Trek
Way better than I expected.Definitely 4 out of 4 stars. As the previous reviwer said there is no need to be a trekkie to really enjoy this movie. Better than all of the other Star Trek movies.
Loved it too....
Im not a trekkie either but i was not bored for a minute during this movie....i loved all the characters..especially simon pegg...lol
This is the best way to see star trek...on the BIG screen!
Star Trek (IMAX)
This is, by far, the best Star Trek movie ever.
The new cast is awesome. They were able to bring new life to the characters but in a way that was respectful to the originals.
It would help if you've seen some of the original TV episodes to get some of the jokes. You definitely don't have to be a big fan to enjoy this movie though.
Already waiting for the DVD to come out, so I can watch it again and again!
Star Trek
Great movie...loved it...you don't need to be a fan or have watched the previous movies to enjoy this flick but it adds so much more to the experience.
hope they make more:)
