Like Blair Witch, this movie will separate the people who have an imagination from those who don't. If you hated BW because "you didn't get to SEE anything" you will hate this movie also, so don't go see it.
If you understand that subtle freaky happenings are MUCH creepier than some cheesy effects with some guy in a monster suit, you will understand and enjoy this movie.

If you're worried about the hand-held perspective- don't be. Unless you get seasick in the bathtub, it'll be fine. If you're looking for a truly terrible movie that would make a sea captain woozy, however, try Quarantine.

Paranormal Activity creeped me out for days, which is what I wanted. So unless you're one of the unfortunates described above.... GO see it!

Dumb...

The First 45 mins, get you into the movie, then the rest is great all up untill it just get ridiculous.....so fake (like all movies, yes i know) but you want them to get into your head, which this one does does, untill they take it too far, if they would of just keep it, how you think ghosts are, then fine, but they stretched it too far and ruined it for me..
it sucked once it was over and i could give it a rating..

worst movie ever!!! think

worst movie ever!!! think blair witch but 100 x worse!!!

DO NOT GO AND SEE THIS MOVIE - WORST MOVIE EVER!!!!!!

1

OMG Whatever you do DO NOT go and watch this movie. What a big disappointment it was. It wasn't even scary and I laughed at how bad the acting was. The camera shots were making me nauseous from it shaking so much! Everyone in the theatre started to say how horrible it was and it wasn't scary - so please whatever you do, Please DO NOT go see this movie, it is a waste of your money and your time.

I was falling asleep during the movie. Believe me I am not a person for scary movies, I put my hands over my eyes watching the Hills have Eyes, Saw - this movie is a joke - the trail is basically every scene that maybe scary the rest was watching them sleep or listening to their horrible dialogue.
Those that are posting it saying it's a great movie - is either a person who created this movie or someone who knows them!!

Watching the trailer alone

Watching the trailer alone makes me want to see it with a friend... but im going to watch it alone!!

Don't waste your money

If you are looking for the scary part, watch the trailer. The only remotely scary scene is shown there. You might get frightened if you are 12 and under.

Yeah Umm This was by far one

Yeah Umm This was by far one of the scarest movies I have ever seen. I would have to say that when I whent to see it last night I was expecting it to be a jumpy kinda movie not A real life kinda movie. It's not scary to the point that you are like OMG when is someone gunna come after me as far as the demon and what he wants to do. I deffinatly do NOT recomend this to anyone who can not handle demons and suff like that and for parents bring kids! Hahhah No! Dont even think about it. The eding was okay but I never looked that much at it cuz I was freaked out. i dont wanna say y cuz I will ruine it but u get the idea

.. Totally ridiculous

WORST ENDING EVER.. Leaves you thinking.. I just spent all that time watching this for that? THAT?? And you think.. that so wouldn't happen.. Uh.. I love a good scary movie.. but this is nothing special ... .I would wait for the dvd to come out .. not worth wasting the money to watch it in a theatre...
4 thumbs down

Just Watch the Trailer

2

As the title suggests, the best parts of this film were in the trailer..and throughout the movie I was waiting for the thing to fly at the camera as it does in the trailer..and it really just ruined the whole movie for me.

Basically if you missed the first 70 minutes of the film, you'd just be watching all the "good parts" (which really aren't that good)..it really takes a long time for anything to pick up the pace. Although there were some great ideas in the film, there was never really a constant terror..something would happen and then things would be normal again. This happened a lot..so no real build-up except the last 5 minutes.

Also, I found myself laughing OUT LOUD during this movie. I should also point out I get frightened fairly easily. So at the very least this film was entertaining for the budget they had. Also I need to say that at the end before the credits run, there is a disclaimer sort of screen that says this isn't even based on real events. That made everything so much worse in my mind because I had gone into the movie thinking this stuff actually happened. After that the few scenes that peaked my interest weren't the least bit interesting anymore. Guess I should've known better.

Not too bad, considering the budget. I went not knowing anything of the movie other than what the title suggests. I was definitely scared, kept my feet up on the seat pretty much the entire movie. Didn't care much for the ending. But when others tried telling me that it was actual footage and that it was not a 'movie' I was not convinced.

Great

It is a very rare occurrence that a movie hits theaters that has the potential to change its genre for the next generations. But paranormal activity, undoubtedly, has that potential. Before I begin to piece the movie apart, I'd like to explain why this is so. No matter how we look at it, the era of the gore horror films of the 70's and 80's are gone. For one such as myself who watches the money brought in by films, it is noticeable that gore horrors are bringing in less and less money. So many times have i been in the theater watching a TCM wannabe and the audience laughs as a character maliciously losses a limb. After over 3 decades of watching people be ripped apart by various means, moviegoers have developed a tolerance to blood and gore. Yes my friends, physiological thrillers are what moviegoers should expect for the next generation. (spoiler alert from here-on-out) Paranormal activity is one of the most effective thrillers i've seen in... possibly ever. Reason one being; it hits close to home. This movie never leaves the home. It is incredibly easy for us to put ourselves into the position of the characters. Unlike other horrors where the protagonists seem to find themselves trapped in a mental asylum or an Australian badland. Both of which, I've never been. How many times have you been sleeping at night to hear a creak of foundation or a window blowing over a loose piece of paper? It happens to everyone, and for about 5 seconds you're sure that there's some kind of evil lurking throughout your residence. This film takes off from this common fear, and hats off the the director for furthering something that already makes us skip heart beats. If i'm lying, i'm dying when I say that after the first 10 minutes of intro this film has, your heart rate will not return to normal until the frankly abrupt ending. This movie is so incredibly unpredictable that you'll be on edge through the duration of the film. One of my favorite scenes of this movie (and there were many of them), was when the psychic returns to the house and becomes obviously frightened and abruptly leaves. This is not only excellent foreshadowing, but also creates even more pity for the on screen couple. Next to this would have to be every single one of the night scenes. Although predictable in nature, no one really knew what was about to happen. Which comes back to the idea of phycological horror. Our sense of fear does not attribute from what's going on in front of our eyes. But instead, what's going on in our own minds. This folks, will be what we continue to see in horror films. As i'm sure you've already gathered, the reality of this film is intense. I did however, manage to find one thing that stuck out as unrealistic in this film. Near the beginning of the film you see Michea setting up his camera in the corner of the room on a stationary tripod, about 6.5 inches from the wall. Now, flashforward to the end of the film when he is sent flying towards, and evidently, into the camera. However, the camera does not move, whatsoever. Being out from the wall, it would have been knocked over. Yet, it stayed completely steady. To end, i'd like to give a big "bravo" to the team on this one. And I recomend everyone over the age of 14 to go out and experience this. Thank you, readers.

Don't go home alone!

So scary, hardly slept. Don't go home alone............

wasn't the best,but worth seeing

good for what it was,but remember to keep your eyes open..lol

It was alright.

This movie was alright - definately not what it was hyped up to be though. It had its' scary moments, but I also found myself laughing through many parts - which isn't a good thing when you're watching a horror movie. The ending kind of sucked as well, but all in all it wasn't a total waste of money to see. However, this is a movie I would probably only ever watch once.

Well Worth Seeing

I don't usually go see horror movies at the theaters simply because I am not a fan. But I saw the trailer and had to check it out. I am glad I did. Honestly I missed a good portion of the movie because I could not stop covering my eyes. This kind of stuff gets deep in my head, I guess. I saw it on Friday and it is now Wednesday and I haven't had a good nights sleep since. There were a few people that got up and left from being creeped out. However, I went with a 14yr old and an 11yr old and while they were scared witless during the movie, they soon got over it when it was all over. I did not. If anyone wants to see this movie, I highly suggest seeing it in theaters. And, yeah, just like every other movie, most of the best parts were in the trailer. But the parts that scared ME the most were not.

What to say, what to say?

Of course I had to see Paranormal Activity, the hype behind it was too great to just ignore it.
I thought this movie was an excellent horror film. Many people say it's not scary, but that's because when they think "horror film" they think; blood, gore, sex, more gore and intense killings. This movie screws with you psychologically! It makes you think that all  you were afraid of as a kid (i.e the closet monster, the monster underneath your bed)that it was real.
I agree it started off a little slow, but this movie was made to make you think it's a real "documentary" film and not a movie.

Overall, I really enjoyed this movie.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!

1

This was the stupidest movie I have ever seen. I literally fell asleep in the theater for the first time ever, and the shaky, hand held camera made me motion sick. It wasn't even remotely scary, the "best part",if you can call it that, was the last five minutes.

Scary movie... Pfff! ya right!

1

i heard it was scary so i went to watch it, i get scared pretty easy, but this didn't faze me at all, it was garbage.

It was boring, stupid and you had to watch half the movie before anything even happened.

There was no real storyline, and you could tell everytime something was going to happen.
You might as well watch the trailer because thats all the stuff in the movie that is sort of worth watching.

I sat there the whole time without flinching.

I recommend that you don't waste your money going to see this movie. Its just 99 minutes of your life that you'll never get back.

aah.

k well, i thought this movie was VERY scary. and i dont get scared easily either. the ending had me shaking and close to crying, people were getting up, and walking out .. no make that runnning out at the end it was so bad.

awesome!!

I jumped at a lot of stuff and after the movie i was shaking and scared to fall asleep, it was the scariest movie i ever seen in my life. I'm going to see this again!!

Don't see the big deal?

This movie got great reviews, but I didn't see what all the hype was about.
It was good for the budget they were given but it wasn't fantastic. It didn't blow my mind or even scare me. I didn't walk out of the theatre with a chill or slightly even remotely freaked. I walked out wishing i had seen something else.
The little effects were more scary than the actual ending.
I found the litte things, like the door moving or something banging to be the best parts.

Pretty much what you see in the trailer is most of what happens in the movie. Enough said.
